ID Photo Booth is the passport and ID photo part of moatool (moatool.app), a family of free browser tools. It is built and maintained by one independent developer, not a company. Take a photo with your webcam or upload one, and it finds your face, crops it to the size you picked, replaces the background and can lay out copies on a 4×6 inch print sheet.
Why your face is not uploaded
An ID photo is a sharp, front-facing picture of your face, and unlike a password it cannot be changed if it leaks. So face detection, background removal and cropping all run entirely inside your browser. The AI models download once, the first time; after that, neither the webcam feed nor your photo leaves your device. The "0 B uploaded" counter and your browser’s network tab both let you check.
How it stays free
With no server processing photos, fixed costs are tiny, so the tool stays free with no sign-up. Running costs are covered by ads, and a paid Pro option removes them for people who prefer that. Ads have nothing to do with how your photo is handled.
What it cannot promise
The tool crops to the official dimensions and face proportions of sizes such as the US passport (2×2 in) and the EU/Schengen visa (35×45 mm). The other rules, like a neutral expression, even lighting and no hat or sunglasses, are up to you, and no tool can guarantee an office will accept the photo, so the page asks you to check the official rules first. If the AI cannot separate you cleanly, the original background is kept rather than forced.
